"In accordance with the decision made during the 11th Meeting and 16th Resolution of the Faculty Board on January 26, 1976, it was decided to establish 30 chairs at Antalya Faculty of Medicine. One of these was the "Chair of Dermatology and Syphilology." By the decision of the Faculty Board on June 26, 1979, and the University's decision numbered 215 on July 3, 1979, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdal Başaran was appointed as the first "Chairman" of the "Chair of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases."The course on "Syphilis" given to students of the III. Semester in the academic year 1979–1980 was the first course of the chair at the faculty. The academic year 1981–1982 was the year in which the first "Dermatology and Venereal Diseases" internship was given to students of the V. Semester. The Dermatology and Venereal Diseases Polyclinic was initially started in October 1980 in a room on the ground floor of the hospital building located in Kepez of the University, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdal Başaran and the first assistant of the department, Dr. Ali Ülkü Yılmaz. The polyclinic was also used as a "minor surgery room" for electro-surgery and biopsy procedures for 2 hours in the afternoon. Specialist Dr. Şahin Yazar was appointed to the specialist assistant staff in March 1981, and later in November 1982, after the department became a "Department" in accordance with Law No. 2547 on Higher Education, he was appointed to the new academic staff as an assistant professor. The Department moved to its place in Block E on the campus in 1987. During these times, there were no dedicated patient beds allocated to the department in the hospital, and patients were monitored by being placed in vacant beds in the wards. Phototherapy and cryotherapy units started operating in 1992, and from July 1997 onwards, the department became a section with a bed service. Due to the renovations and constructions carried out within the hospital between 1987 and 2005, the polyclinics changed locations 7 times. Since 2005, the Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases has continued its work on the 1st floor of Block H8, where all services are provided, and where faculty members and research assistants are located."
