Our Department provides pre-graduation and post-graduate education in Child Health and Diseases, as well as upper specialization training in different sub-branches, and provides health services as the research and reference hospital of the region. The knowledge, skills and attitudes that a general practitioner will need about child health and diseases are provided in integrated education in Term III, and in 2-month internships in Term IV and internship. Currently, 30 research assistants are receiving specialist training in our department. Additionally, subspecialty training is provided in all sub-branches. With 12 neonatal, 10 neonatal intensive care, 35 pediatric beds and 6 pediatric intensive care beds, our department provides inpatient care to an average of over 2000 cases per year. In our general pediatrics, neonatal, well-child, cardiology, nephrology, endocrinology, neurology, immunology-allergy, clinical genetics, gastroenterology, hematology and oncology, pediatric emergency and pediatric diet outpatient clinics, healthcare services are provided to approximately 43212 cases per year. Our occupancy rate is 112% and the average number of patients per day of stay is 8. Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) has been performed on 150 patients in our Department of Hematology-Oncology since 1998. Many patients apply to our Stem Cell Transplantation Unit, which started performing non-relative transplantation in 2005, as it is the only pediatric center in Turkey with accreditation for non-relative transplantation. Prenatal diagnosis was performed on 250 cases in our Thalassemia Center, which works in coordination with other departments. In addition, all childhood blood and cancer diseases are treated in our Department. In our Pediatric Nephrology unit, research is mainly carried out on nephrotic syndrome, continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and urinary tract infections. In renal replacement therapy, emphasis is placed on CAPD, and necessary cases are treated in the hemodialysis unit. With the Multidisciplinary Pediatric Urology Working Group meetings held every week, joint monitoring and treatment of the case is provided by urology, pediatric surgery, nuclear medicine, radiology and pediatric nephrology units. Every year, 3-5 pediatric cases find the opportunity for renal transplantation. Angiography applications for diagnosis and treatment (coil PDA closure, balloon septostomy, pulmonary valvuloplasty) can be performed in our Department of Pediatric Cardiology. Our genetics unit works in coordination with relevant branches and provides clinical genetics, prenatal diagnosis and consultancy services for many diseases. Diagnosis, monitoring and treatment opportunities, including pediatric endoscopy and biopsy, are offered in our gastroenterology unit. In our neonatal unit, follow-up and treatment is provided for all newborn patients. In our neonatal intensive care department, respiratory support is given to sick babies, especially those with very low birth weight and premature babies, and specific treatments are given for the problems of premature babies.
