Non-Invasive Cardiology

Non-Invasive Cardiology
The Non-Invasive Cardiology Unit of the Department of Cardiology provides non-invasive cardiovascular diagnostic examinations for the diagnosis, evaluation, follow-up, and risk stratification of cardiovascular diseases. The unit performs diagnostic tests for the assessment of the structural and functional characteristics of the heart, evaluation of exercise capacity and myocardial ischemia, long-term monitoring of cardiac rhythm and blood pressure, and assessment of syncope and related conditions.

The Non-Invasive Cardiology Unit provides services through its Echocardiography Laboratory, Exercise/Stress Testing Unit, Holter Laboratory, and Tilt Table Testing Unit.

Echocardiography Laboratory
Our Echocardiography Laboratory performs routine and advanced echocardiographic examinations for the diagnosis, evaluation, and follow-up of cardiovascular diseases. In addition to routine transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), the laboratory provides transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), three-dimensional echocardiography, strain imaging, dobutamine stress echocardiography, and contrast-enhanced echocardiography.
Echocardiographic examinations are evaluated and documented using a standardized reporting system. When necessary, intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography support is provided to the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery.
In addition, portable echocardiography devices enable bedside echocardiographic assessment of patients hospitalized in the Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery wards, as well as patients in other hospital departments for whom a cardiology consultation has been requested.

Exercise/Stress Testing
Exercise and stress tests are performed to assess patients' exercise capacity and cardiovascular responses to exertion and, when clinically appropriate, to investigate myocardial ischemia. Tests are conducted under the supervision of cardiologists, and the results are evaluated and reported in conjunction with the patient's clinical findings.

Holter Laboratory
Our Holter Laboratory provides 24-hour ambulatory ECG (rhythm Holter) monitoring and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM). These examinations are particularly useful for the evaluation and follow-up of cardiac rhythm disorders and blood pressure variations.
Recordings obtained by trained healthcare professionals are reviewed and interpreted by cardiologists and subsequently reported.

Tilt Table Test
Tilt table testing is performed in our unit primarily for the evaluation of patients with unexplained syncope, presyncope, or suspected reflex syncope. During the test, the patient is gradually moved to a controlled tilted position while heart rate, continuous beat-to-beat blood pressure, and hemodynamic responses are monitored.

When indicated, additional pharmacological provocation protocols may be used to assess the resulting cardiovascular response.

Findings obtained during tilt table testing are evaluated together with the patient's medical history, physical examination, and other cardiac investigations. This assessment contributes to identifying the underlying mechanism of syncope and determining the appropriate clinical management.
