Psychiatric evaluation of a child or adolescent begins with interviewing the child and his/her family/caregivers and taking a detailed history of the child's application complaint and accompanying complaints. The primary purpose in the psychological evaluation of the child is to determine whether the reason for applying the child is a part of the child's normal development or if there is a psychopathology. However, the evaluation includes not only the child's current complaint, but also a broad framework such as physical, cognitive, social and developmental processes related to the child, parental evaluations, the quality of education and care the child receives, and consultation requests for comorbid conditions that may accompany. If necessary, the child may be referred to the psychologist for psychometric and projective tests. In many cases, informing the child and family and making suggestions about the situation are sufficient. If any psychopathology is detected during the evaluation, the necessary treatment and interventions are planned.
